Truth: A Study of Water Baptism

Doctrine...Is it important?

"The righteous hate what is false." (Prov 13:5)

"What you heard from me, keep the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus." (2 Tim 1:13)

"You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine." (Titus 2:1)

"Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees." (Matthew 16:12)

"Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves." (Mat 7:15)

"And many false prophets shall arise, and deceive many." (Mat 24:11)

"Now the spirit clearly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons." (1 Tim 4:1)

"But even if an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed."
(Gal 1:8)

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." (Col 2:8)

Ever wonder why there is not ONE example in the bible of the "sinner's prayer" or "altar calls" we see in today's churches?  Ever doubt and question your own salvation, feeling as if something just isn't right?  Ever wonder why EVERY case of salvation in the New Testament involved water baptism?  Ever wonder why these baptisms were ALWAYS done "immediately", "that very night", or "that very hour" while today's churches often schedule them and have a person wait weeks for baptism?  If you haven't, you should.  This article will explain such things and by the end of just Part One, you will understand why these doctrines of today's churches are deceptions not taught in the bible and you will understand, with scripture to back it, what God does require for salvation.

The bible clearly warns of the dangers of teaching doctrines contrary to the bible, even going as far as to warn that false teachers will arise and abound in the last days of the age.
Doctrine affects the health and maturity of the church, our relationship to God, and even our salvation!  Infant baptisms do not save according to the New Testament's teaching on baptism, nor does  repeating "our fathers" and "hail mary's" or a "sinner's prayer" or doing human "works" of  charity save us. These are just a few examples but the list is endless.  False doctrines can and are leading christians astray today.  From spirit baptism to speaking in tongues for salvation to miracle vials of water and miracle scarfs, Satan is deceiving the church in masse'.  In this article I'm going to talk strictly about water baptism.  Is it necessary for salvation?  I will prove overwhelmingly, through scripture, that it is!  I advocate not that baptism alone, or the water itself, saves us but that baptism IS a required PART of salvation, which encompasses many things, not just merely "believing" as most are falsely taught today.  Originally, I had planned on writing a brief article on the necessity of water baptism, but these are numerous already and uncomprehensive.  God moved me to not just "dabble" but to exhaust this topic and I could not find peace until I did.  I believe I have covered it extensively and have answered all or most of the common objections to the necessity of water baptism for salvation.  What was intended to be a 10 page article has turned into a comprehensive 105 pages worth of information, all neatly organized and broken down into subtitled sections with scriptures cited for the reader for quick reference and understanding.  Before you begin to read I ask that you keep an open heart, reference the scriptures, and read this article in its entirety before you make a decision on where you stand.  You can reference the scriptures on your own but for the sake of the reader and simplicity I have often included the scriptures for you...Let us begin..........

Water Baptism
Baptize comes from the Greek word "baptidzo" which means to immerse or dip.  The word translation for baptism is synonymous with water immersion.  A form of the word appears over 80 times in the NT - clearly God has much to say about it!  The word "water" appears 722 in the bible, more times than love, heaven, faith, hope, prayer, or worship.  Baptism is an important act of obedience that has all but been abandoned by the church.  For the life of me I can't figure out why.  Salvation was accompanied by water baptism in every detailed account of salvation in the NT (New Testament).  Preachers today are incorrectly teaching that salvation comes by faith by word of mouth or prayer to God , one then receives salvation and the Holy Spirit and THEN we are to get baptized as a testimony and confirmation that we identify ourselves with God because we are already saved.  And often you have to be "scheduled" for this baptism to take place.  This is incorrect!  The NT clearly teaches this formula:  hear the gospel, receive it gladly and believe it with all your heart, get baptized for the remission/forgiveness of sins, receive the Holy Spirit.  And it was always deemed with such importance that whenever the NT talks of a person being baptized it is often accompanied by the words "immediately" or "that very night" or "that very hour".  THEN they received the Holy Spirit.  Water baptism alone does not save, faith alone does not save, hearing the gospel alone does not save, it is the combination of all that save and this is what I will prove through this article. After much examination and "searching the scriptures" as the bible tells us to do for answers, it had me questioning my own baptist beliefs regarding the formula for salvation.  I believe with all conviction that I have finally found the truth.  PLEASE
